The Importance of Strength Training in Sports Performance

Sports require strength, speed, and power. Strength training is crucial for athlete's development and success. Our focus is on the science-backed and experience-proven barbell movements such as the clean, jerk, snatch, squats, and presses. These weight-training movements have the greatest transfer to sporting movements and require expert instruction and supervision. These exercises are programmed along with the speed and agility components of our curriculum so that the athletes will peak at the appropriate time.

Our desire is to develop athletes throughout their athletic career. All our athletes stay consistent year-round, training in and out of their sport season.

Before any loading takes place, every lifter is put through extensive teaching sessions where they learn to move the bar correctly. We organize all workouts to ensure a good coach to athlete ratio for teaching efficiency and safety. Whether you are a five year veteran or brand new to the gym, you are always being coached at Pfahler Sport Specific.

Speed Training

Faster athletes are better athletes. Our speed training offers the opportunity to learn the fundamental technique and biomechanics required for sprinting. Not only do our athletes get faster, they also experience positive adaptations in force development, balance, motor function and flexibility. The skill of sprinting helps us move more effectively and efficiently on the field, court, and track.

Basketball is a game of reps and consistency. Our program is intended to help athletes of all ages improve their overall offensive skill set. We have athletes of all levels ranging from elementary, middle school, high school, college and professional. Our workouts are designed based on the individual needs of our athletes.

Our desire is to develop athletes throughout their athletic career. All our athletes stay consistent year-round, training in and out of their sport season.

We primarily focus on ball-handling, attacking the basket, finishing with right and left hands (off both feet) from multiple angles and some shooting, all of which require proper footwork, rhythm and timing. Our highly experienced staff provide constant feedback throughout their session to challenge each athlete outside their comfort zone. We emphasize the importance of attention to detail and making mistakes in order to get better. All while stressing the importance of creating game speed reps.

​Not only do we teach our athletes how to play the right way, we make sure they develop qualities such as showing up in a timely fashion, communication with an authority figure, organization of schedule, accountability, and perseverance. All qualities we believe to be life skills they need to grow into responsible adults. We are invested personally in each of our athletes and will make an effort attend as many of their games as we can.
